This amazing journey started more than 5 years ago when we took on the challenge of transforming a neglected yet beautiful old stone house into Alma Calma Hotel Rural. Nestled in Tindaya, Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands, our eco-friendly Boutique Hotel offers a minimalist design and awe-inspiring views.

So, how did we make it happen? We rolled up our sleeves and embarked on the path of self-construction, utilising natural materials like lime and recycled wood. We poured all our financial, physical, and emotional resources into this project. Choosing eco-friendly materials wasn’t the quickest, easiest, or most economical option, but for us, it was the only choice that truly reflected our core human values.

Following our Hearts with a Touch of Madness: The Key to a New Path

Some might call it madness, but back in 2018, when everyone was focused on investing in Lajares, located 12 km away, we decided to bet on Tindaya. 

The energy we felt here was unlike anywhere else. 

While many saw it as a risky move to bring our project to life in a small, underdeveloped town, we didn’t let fear of the unknown hold us back. 

We followed our hearts with a touch of madness that propelled us forward on this new path.

Fulfilling Our Dreams with Love and Care

People often ask us, “Why did you do it?” The answer is simple: love. 

Love for Fuerteventura, the Island we chose, love for the history of this house and the people who built it more than 150 years ago. But most importantly, it was love for ourselves, as we aimed to fulfil our dream of creating a haven of hospitality.

Europe’s Best Eco-Sustainable Rural Hotel in 2022 

Today we are proud to share that Alma Calma Hotel Rural is the only 4-star eco-sustainable hotel in Fuerteventura, certified by Ecostars. 

It holds a special place as the sole hotel on the island included in Rusticae, a prestigious brand that unites the finest boutique hotels in Spain. In 2022, we were honoured to receive the Grinn Award for Best Eco-Sustainable Rural Hotel in Europe. 

This recognition is a testament to our unwavering commitment, philosophy, and values of respecting the environment, proving that quality and sustainable tourism can go hand in hand.
