This incredible journey began over five years ago when we took on the challenge of transforming a neglected but beautiful old stone house into what is now Alma Calma Hotel Rural.

Nestled in Tindaya, Fuerteventura — in the heart of the Canary Islands — our eco-friendly boutique hotel combines minimalist design with breathtaking views.

Lime and Recycled Wood: Our Eco-Friendly Building Choice

How did we do it?

We rolled up our sleeves and embraced the path of self-construction, choosing natural materials like lime and recycled wood.

We poured all our financial, physical, and emotional energy into this project.

Using eco-friendly materials wasn’t the fastest, easiest, or cheapest route — but for us, it was the only one that truly reflected our core values.

Following our Hearts with a Touch of Madness

Some called it madness.

Back in 2018, when everyone was investing in Lajares, just 12 km away, we chose to bet on Tindaya.

The energy we felt here was unlike anywhere else.

Though many saw it as risky to bring our project to life in a small, underdeveloped village, we refused to let fear hold us back.

We followed our hearts — and yes, a touch of madness — down a new and exciting path.

Fulfilling a Dream with Love and Care

People often ask, “Why did you do it?”
The answer is simple: love.
Love for Fuerteventura, the island we chose.
Love for the history of this house and for the people who built it more than 150 years ago.

But above all, it was love for ourselves and our dream — the dream of creating a haven of peace and hospitality.

Europe’s Best Eco-Sustainable Rural Hotel (2022) 

We are proud to say that Alma Calma Hotel Rural is the only 4-star eco-sustainable hotel in Fuerteventura, certified by Ecostars. 

It’s also the only hotel on the islandselected by Rusticae, the prestigious collection of Spain’s finest boutique hotels.. In 2022, we were honoured to receive the Grinn Award for Best Eco-Sustainable Rural Hotel in Europe – a testament to our values and unwavering commitment to sustainable and high-quality tourism.
